A road with the name London Road
Carries great expectations
It should say something
About London, about its origins
And it does
We stumble across a big public clock and a museum
Both take us through the times
The clock in the present, the museum in the past
It's the Horniman museum I am talking about
Aha, there it is, the horny man.
That must have been the first Londoner
Who made the population grow
Yes, the horny man
Preceded by Homo Erectus
Very horny that, in it?
Active romance in London.

Wandering the cobbled streets of Hamelin on a full moonlit night. Every step oozes romance as hand-in-hand we stroll, then stop at as corner to gaze at one of the the charming Weser Renaissance homes bathed in the subtle amber glow of streetlight. Close by the sound of the river Weser, deep and wide, moonlight reflected from its glass-like surface as it slowly meanders its way through this charming town.

Harbourfront like most waterfronts is typically romantic – water lapping, waves and moonlight. Park shoreline in the distance. But when you are with the one you love, the horizon is infinite, the city disappears and the boardwalk extends to infinity. What better place to propose to the one you love.

My wife and I are both geologists, we had our first kiss and, a year later, I proposed, at this beautiful tranquil spot with its deep sense of history, both ancient and Victoria, with the sun on our faces, a breeze rustling the prehistoric leaves and lapping water. A truly magical place.

The wonderful ancient woodlands of Lesnes Abbey resplendent in their blanket of bluebells, provide the perfect setting for a romantic liaison. Watch the wildlife as you entwine in your lover’s arms, and gaze longingly into their eyes.

Walk with me along Regent Canal - past the last few industrial remains that give a faint hint of what London used to be; past new apartment blocks with shining facades; past a single swan that sites quietly in the water admiring its reflection; past the hustle and bustle of Camden Lock Market with its mouth watering smells; past the London Zoo where colourful birds sing songs of nostalgia; past expensive villas that seem to tell the story of London without having seen any of it; past moorings with colourful boats, each a mirror of the soul of its owner.

I am in the Holly Grove shrubbery on the way to Choumert Square and the market on Sunday morning. I’ve stopped for a break on a bench to watch the squirrels and to admire the autumn leaves on this sunny Sunday! Who’d of thought that Peckham was so romantic?

We took the train to Barnes and walked across Barnes Common into Richmond Park. It was a clear brisk autumn day and we had got up and out early to enjoy the bright early morning sun. We ambled higgledy piggledy across the park amongst trees displaying garden oranges and ruby reds hand in hand, deep in discussion, kicking the crisp autumn leaves like children on a path of discovery. Later, tired and hungry, we shared a Cornish pasty in a café, bumping into friends. Spontaneous and perfect. Mel x

Pick up the canal towpath at Hythe Bridge and walk past the barges and locks, past St Barnabas’ Venetian tower at Jericho and the Aristotle Bridge, right up to Wolvercote; then cross the village and follow the Thames itself.
Pass through the great flood plain at Port Meadow, notice the track to the Perch at Binsey . Follow the river south and you’re near Oxford station. The water guides you along the way.

The first time my boyfriend [now husband] drove me up to see the City from the top Twin Peaks was in 1984. We were at a turning point: I was ambivalent about moving from New York to San Francisco for this relationship. After all, New York has everything, right? What were the guarantees this would work out between us? We walked the circle around the Peaks and watched the lights come on around the Bay He talked about our life together in the years to come, as he imagined it. That evening, I began to make my relocation plans.... Perhaps your visit to this unique spot will inspire a geographic adventure for you too. I've never regretted it.

Recommended romantic spot:
Twin Peaks, SF, CA - a 360 degree view of the City by the Bay. After the Golden Gate Bridge and the Ocean [Hwy 1 Montara Beach is a favorite] it's the best view in the Bay Area
